ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR HONOR REWARDS PROGRAM
RESIDENT OF DUNN COUNTY
CHARACTER OF SERVICE – Received an Honorable Discharge or General Discharge under honorable conditions.
TERMS OF SERVICE – 90 days active duty during a designated wartime period or 24 months continuous service during a peacetime period.
NOTE: Also eligible if discharged with less than above service if for a service connected disability recognized by the VA for hardship reasons or completed required active duty service obligation.
Currently serving under a 6-year contract and a soldier in good standing with his/her unit. Has completed basic and advanced training requirements.
PRIOR NATIONAL GUARD/RESERVISTS:
Completed 6-year contract in good standing. Must provide a NGB 22 or Retirement Point Record.
It is a violation of federal criminal law to alter, forge or counterfeit a DD-214, certificate of discharge. The law is as follows:
“18 U.S. Code § 498 – Military or naval discharge certificates
Whoever forges, counterfeits, or falsely alters any certificate of discharge from the military or naval service of the United States, or uses, unlawfully possesses or exhibits any such certificate, knowing the same to be forged, counterfeited, or falsely altered, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.”
It is also a violation of state law in several states to falsely represent that one is a veteran.
